About Me
I am interested in teachers’ lives and well-being. In my commitment to honoring teachers’ humanity, I have been studying how teachers who were grieving a death managed their emotions in the context of reading, writing, and thinking with students. In this work, I address the challenges grieving teachers face and identify the supports that will help sustain teachers following the death of a loved one.
I began my teaching career as a high school English teacher in the suburbs of Atlanta. In Michigan, I taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in English language arts methods and children's literature, and supervised student teachers for teaching certification. Currently I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy, teacher education, and classroom communication at the University of South Florida. I also serve as coordinator of the English Education doctoral program.
